Site Build It Mobile

I first started using Ken Evoy’s popular small business building system, called Site Build It! way back in 2003; when I launched www.updatexp.com

In those early days I was an official Site Build It! webmaster, the precursor to the now official SiteSell Services team – so I have a good understanding when it comes to building websites with SBI!.

A growing number of Site Build It! owners would like to create a “Mobile Friendly” version of their website, but they can’t currently do this within the Site Build It! system. (Although there are rumours of a new module coming in the future called MobiliseIt!)

As there is no access to an .HTACCESS file or PHP it is also impossible to manually install a mobile redirect script either.

A Work Around Solution

BEFORE I go any further I would like to state that MOST Site Build It! owners do NOT need a mobile version of their website. On January 04, 2011 Dr Ken Evoy posted an interesting article called “What’s Your Take on Mobile Surfing?”. In it he lays out the case that Site Build It! websites are largely about content (LOTS of it) and that the mobile platform is not being used for the research-oriented search-and-surf experience.

BUT, what if you own a LOCAL business and you are using Site Build It! just like Dr John Burch DDS or Kristen McClure MSW, LCSW – Then you need a mobile friendly website! (Read this page to find out why GOOGLE is now insisting you have one!)

…and there is a work around. The “rough” outline is:

STEP ONE

Create a subdomain in the Infinit! module: e.g. m.yoursbidomain.com

STEP TWO

Purchase a new hosting account with with a domain @ BlueHost.com

STEP THREE

Point the Infinit! subdomain entry to the new account and wait 48 hrs to work

STEP FOUR

Now upload the files of your new mobile friendly website that you, or someone like me, have made for you

STEP FIVE

Place links on your SiteBuildIt! website pointing to the Moble Version of your website!

Now I appreciate it is not quite as simple as this, BUT these are the steps you are going to have to take if you want to create a Site Build It! mobile website.
